Royal Pains is a USA cable network television series starring Mark Feuerstein about a young E.R. doctor who, after being wrongly blamed for a patient’s death, moves to the Hamptons and becomes the reluctant “doctor for hire” to the rich and famous. When the administrator of the local hospital asks him to treat the town’s less fortunate, he finds himself walking the line between doing well for himself and doing good for others. A down and out surgeon has a chance to redeem himself as a small town physician in the wealthy beach community of East Hampton, NY.

The series is based in part on actual concierge medicine practices of independent doctors and companies like Concierge Medicine/LA, Direct Care Group, MDVIP, MD_Squared and others.

The pilot was filmed on location on Long Island, New York in spring and fall of 2008. The Hollywood Reporter reported on January 5 that the series was picked up for a 12-episode season. The theme song is “Independence” by the Danish band The Blue Van. On July 28, 2009, it was renewed for a second season consisting of 16 episodes beginning in Summer 2010. The pilot was directed by Jace Alexander, who also filmed the pilot of Burn Notice, another USA show, which airs in the hour before Royal Pains. Andrew Lenchewski wrote the pilot and Rich and Paul Frank executive produced the project, with Lenchewski co-executive producing and John Rogers producing.

Royal Pains stars Mark Feuerstein, Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty and Jill Flint. Henry Winkler (”Arrested Development”) joins the cast for season two as Eddie R. Lawson, Hank and Evan’s father. ROYAL PAINS is executive produced Michael Rauch as well as by Rich Frank, Paul Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz from Prospect Park and written and executive produced by Andrew Lenchewski. Christine Sacani and John Rogers serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions.
