Flashpoint is a Canadian police drama television series that debuted on July 11, 2008, on CTV in Canada and CBS in the United States.
Flashpoint is an emotional journey following the lives of members of the SRU (Strategic Response Unit) as they solve hostage situations, bust gangs, and defuse bombs. They work by utilizing their training to get inside the heads of these people in order to make them reach their breaking point (aka their flashpoint). Sgt. Gregory Parker ( Enrico Colantoni ) leads the elite team on their missions. The show is based upon the experiences of the real life Toronto Police Emergency Task Force.
The SRU are tasked to resolve extreme situations that regular officers are not trained to handle including hostage-taking, bomb threats and heavily armed criminals. Equipped with high-tech tools and a cache of weapons and explosives, members use negotiation tactics and intuition to try to avoid the use of force.
The series is broadcast on the French Canadian-language network V (formerly known as TQS) in Quebec since March 9, 2009. The show was created by Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern and stars Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson, Hugh Dillon and David Paetkau.
Flashpoint is about an elite tactical unit, called the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), within a Canadian metropolitan police force (styled on the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force).
Original episodes from the third season of FLASHPOINT, the police drama depicting the emotional journey into the tough, risk-filled lives of a group of cops in the Strategic Response Unit, will begin airing Friday, June 4 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. In a special, two-hour block on Friday, July 9, FLASHPOINT will air two episodes from 9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT. The series will relocate to its new time period on Friday, July 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). The premiere episode will be rebroadcast on a special night and time on Saturday, May 29 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).
