Eureka is an American science fiction television series.
Small town. Big secret. A car accident leads U.S. Marshal Jack Carter into the top-secret Pacific Northwest town of Eureka. For decades, the United States government has relocated the world’s geniuses to Eureka, a town where innovation and chaos have lived hand in hand.
The show is set in a fictional town called Eureka in the Pacific Northwest inhabited almost entirely by geniuses and scientists that live in a top-secret government-run town. Nearly everyone in Eureka works for Global Dynamics, a huge advanced research facility responsible for the development of all major technological breakthroughs in the last 50 years. Each episode features a mysterious accidental or intentional misuse of technology which is then solved by the town Sheriff, Jack Carter with the help of town scientists. There is also a story arc concerning a mysterious artifact that has had an appearance in both the first and second seasons.
Eureka kicks off its 4th season with the introduction of new series regular James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as “Dr. Grant,” a former resident of the town whose unexpected return is cause for serious alarm and, considering his romantic interest in Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), significant friction with Sherriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). New and returning fans won’t want to miss the big changes in store for everyone in the small town of Eureka after a cataclysmic shift turns their lives upside down. Eureka also stars Joe Morton (”Henry Deacon”), Erica Cerra (”Jo Lupo”), Neil Grayston (”Douglas Fargo”), and Niall Matter (”Zane Donovan”). Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Bruce Miller are Executive Producers. The series is produced and distributed by Universal Cable Productions.
It was created by Andrew Cosby and Jamie Paglia and is produced by Universal Media Studios. The season one original music was composed by Mutato Muzika and season two and three were composed by Bear McCreary. The executive producers of the current season are Pagli, Charles Grant Craig, and Thania St. John. While lacking in strong critical acclaim, Eureka has been a popular success, averaging 3.2 million viewers during the second half of season three. In 2007 Eureka was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects for a Series and won the Leo Award for Best Visual Effects in a Dramatic Series. In the United Kingdom, the show is known as A Town Called Eureka. It was announced on July 24, 2009 that the show had been picked up for a 22 episode fourth season, set to premiere on July 9, 2010.
